For each species, basionym, synonyms, information on type collection, detail description, chemistry, remarks, variation, habitat and altitudinal distribution within and outside India, along with maps are provided. Glossary of botanical names and terms used in the text are also provided.

The important morphological characters to delimit genera and species along with scientific illustrations and scanning electron microscopic pictures are given in the general account. Eight localities are proposed as "Lichen sanctuaries" for the country owing to their luxuriant parmelioid flora.
