About this book

The widespread New Zealand members of the Kunzea ericoides complex are revised. Ten species, all endemic to New Zealand are now recognised; seven of these are new to science. Two species, Kunzea robusta and K. serotina are widespread, while the remaining eight species (K. amathicola, K. ericoides, K. linearis, K. salterae, K. sinclairii, K. tenuicaulis, K. toelkenii, K. triregensis) are either narrow-range endemics or have contracting ranges due to ongoing habitat loss and fragmentation. Typifications are published for Leptospermum ericoides A.Rich., L. ericoides var. linearis Kirk, L. ericoides var. microflorum G.Simps., L. ericoides var. pubescens Kirk, and L. sinclairii Kirk, names here all referred to Kunzea. The ecology, conservation, extent of natural hybridisation and some aspects of the ethnobotany of these Kunzea are also discussed.
