This book is a reference field guide to provide the first checklist of aquatic macrophytes found in the Damodar River Basin of Jharkhand state in India. These macrophytes provide cover and food for fishes and other aquatic animals and also act as an indicator of water quality of the water bodies. The book consist of a systematic account of 45 species belonging to 22 families from the order Charales of the class Charaphyceae, division Charophyta.
Pictorial Guide to Aquatic Macrophytes of the Damodar River Basin in Jharkhand and West Bengal, India is intended to give its readers a generalized summary of the variety of aquatic plants and their ecology in the river basin as well as enhance the identification and understanding of the frequently observed macrophyte species therein. The Damodar River Basin is the largest watershed draining the Chotanagpur Plateau which is covered mainly by subtropical dry broadleaf forests.This is the first book on aquatic macrophytes of the Damodar river basin and will be utilized as baseline data by future workers. It will also serve to create environmental awareness among environmentalists, nature lovers, amateur researchers, and policy makers of the Save Damodar Campaign.
