About this book

Language: English

The author is a mountaineer, an amateur photographer, naturalist and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Despite being a serving officer, he could find time to study 310 species of birds, 260 species from the Poonch and Rajouri districts of the Jammu region where he was posted. Although his main area of focus was these two districts, he frequently visited neighbouring areas in search of birds, including the famous Gharana Bird Sanctuary. Like a true naturalist, he extensively trekked for two years in the area where he was posted which gave him an opportunity to go to remote areas and photograph birds.

The book is basically a photographic guide, aimed at helping beginners identify birds. He made special efforts to photograph small forest birds such as warblers, tits, babblers, flycatchers, and thrushes. He was able to photograph almost all species that he saw during his forays in forests, grasslands, urban and semi-urban areas, crop fields, orchards and even army areas.

This 300 page book has about 747 photographs which include species like Spectacled Finch, Orange Bullfinch, Red-headed Bullfinch, Chaffinch, Brambling, Fire-capped Tit, Black and Yellow Grosbeak, White-winged Grosbeak, Collared Grosbeak and Eastern Imperial Eagle.
