The XXIII ICMS was held on December 9-11, 2011, at the Department of Geology, Bangalore University, where ICMS was originally conceived, organized and hosted in 1971. The XXIII ICMS focused on Micropaleontological and Stratigraphical studies in India with a series of colloquia and the International Symposiurn on Global Bioevents in Earth History. The conference attracted 300 delegates from various universities and Institutions from India and abroad including USA and Switzerland.
The colloquium featured 115 oral presentations including 15 keynote addresses spread over 10 technical sessions. In addition, 30 posters were displayed providing an opportunity to interact informally with the contributors. A total of 26 papers have been included in this symposium volume after thorough critical reviews. These papers encompass both reviews of special topics, summaries of particular datasets and original research contributions. Together they span age intervals ranging from the Neoproterozoic, Mesozoic to Paleogene and Recent addressing a variety of stratigraphic, paleoecologic, environmental and paleoclimatic events. These contributions are organized under four themes: 1. Applications, 2. Paleoecology – Recent, 3. Global Bioevents – PE and KTB, and 4. Biodiversity and Stratigraphy in Deep Time.
