Munich-based Prestel Publishing’s titles include illustrated books such as Art Forms in Nature: The Prints of Ernst Haeckel, and Alexander Von Humboldt and the Botanical Exploration of the Americas. A Bird in Winter: A Children’s Book Inspired by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, uses Bruegel’s famous painting The Hunters in the Snow as a starting point for a heartwarming story of a young girl nursing a bird back to health.
Prestel Publishing was founded by Herman Loeb in 1924 to publish prints of old masters - the company is named after the famous Eighteenth Century German engraver Johann Gottlieb Prestel.
The publisher is now part of Random House.
