About this book

Drug discovery has been an essential pursuit of mankind since prehistoric times. The quality control standards of various medicinal plants used in indigenous system of drug are becoming more relevant today in view of commercialization of formulations based on medicinal plants. Efficacy and safety are the other two points to be taken care for the standardization of the herbal drugs. Current research on standardized preparations has also discovered newer biological activities with the plant extract, as well as isolated constituents. Thus, quantification of lead molecules of different medicinal plants use in herbal preparations lead to the standardization of the herbal formulation in terms of chemical constituents. An attempt for the standardization of polyherbal formulation has therefore, been presented in the volume with respect to the active principles of the medicinal plants used.
