WILLIAM A. JURY is Distinguished Professor of Soil Physics in the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of California-Riverside. In 2000, he was inducted into the National Academy of Sciences. ROBERT HORTON is a professor in the Department of Agronomy at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
