The Biology and Conservation of Australasian Bats follows the successful three day forum of the same name held in April 2007 at the Australian Museum. The forum was organised jointly by the Royal Zoological Society of NSW and the Australasian Bat Society. The collection of papers by various authors are divided into four sections: Perspectives on bats in Australia; Biology; Methods; and Conservation and Management.

The Biology and Conservation of Australasian Bats has a stated goal, a multi-focus approach of communicating what we have learned recently about bat biology and conservation but in general context of how to integrate strategies to protect bats within broader conservation initiatives. That means that the goal is to appeal to and be useful to scientists, managers and carers – a disparate group to be sure, but one drawn together by their passion for flying mammals. A further goal of The Biology and Conservation of Australasian Bats is to provide impetus for young adults to get involved with bats in one or all of these three contexts.
