About this book

Language: English

The Bryoflora of the Southernmost Western Ghats, India presents an original account of the bryophytes of the Southernmost Western Ghats and has 240 species with 145 mosses, 90 liverworts and 5 hornworts supported by 138 figures and 25 colour plates. This work includes 3 new species, 1 new combination at the rank of a variety, 7 species new to the bryoflora of India, 7 to that of the Indian mainland and 14 to that of Peninsular India published earlier.

A new variety, 4 new combinations, 12 species new to Peninsular India and 1 to that of the Western Ghats are now added. Synonymy is elaborate in that it includes almost all Indian literatures.

Each species is described in detail and the descriptions are based mostly on fresh material. Information is also added on habitat, distribution etc. The Bryoflora of the Southernmost Western Ghats, India will be of use to students and teachers of botany, researchers in academic and research institutions as well as those who are interested in the diversity of lower groups of plants which still have not received the attention they deserve. Critical taxonomic and nomenclatural notes are provided wherever necessary. (jacket)
