About this book

Language: Russian

This book presents the author's views on the relationship between animal communication and human language, based on his 45 years of experience studying the signaling behavior of insects, reptiles and birds. The proposed system looks very different from the representations on this issue prevalent in Western literature.

Amongst others, rhe author considers the signal behaviour of Siberian Crane Grus (Sarcogeranus) leucogeranus. A detailed account of acoustic and optical signals in Caspian Gull Larus cachinnans includes, in Appendix 1, competition between chicks to join groups of young birds. Distant communication of Corn Crake Crex crex is also examined and there are accounts of the singing behaviour of Tree Pipit Anthus trivialis and Great Tit Parus major. Based on the author's expertise and numerous publications on this topic, sections on wheatears Oenanthe spp. and Bay-backed Shrike Lanius vittatus are also included.
