About this book

No other county in England, and few in the British Isles, has been so poorly recorded and documented as Herefordshire, and yet it has a remarkable diversity of habitat and is well endowed with botanical treasures.

The Rare Plants of Herefordshire features a compilation of botanical records, both post 1987 and historical, in some cases dating back over 300 years, a selection of high quality photographs, selected distribution maps, and an introductory paragraph for each plant that shares with the reader all the local knowledge that we have about the plant in Herefordshire, what sort of plant it is and how it grows.

This book is intended both as a tool for conservation and as an aid for those naturalists wishing to continue the study of Herefordshires rare plants, but also as an inspiration for those wishing to rediscover some of the county's lost botanical treasures.
