Sustainable use of wildlife resources provides a viable alternative to the degradation of land and adverse impacts of biodiversity. The southern African experience has shown that wildlife can simultaneously enhance local economies and environmental stability. Indeed, a wide spectrum of experience has accumulated in eastern and southern Africa, and perhaps the most important goal of this conference was to establish communication links among those working on wildlife in the region.
