About this book

Language: German

It began in 1775, when the Orientalist and literary scholar Professor Dr. Oluf Gerhard Tychsen founded a naturalist cabinet. The first large acquisition took place in 1804 with a collection of 380 taxidermic specimens of birds of Schwerin Hofrat Georg Lembcke. It contained 250 species, which, except for a few, were all from Mecklenburg.

After a long, rich history, the 2016 collection includes more than 2,600 objects recorded in computerized systems belonging to almost 500 species or subspecies. In addition, there are anatomical preparations, skeletons, bellows, eggs and models. In addition to documents for the Landesfauna of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the material contains numerous pieces from all over the world, an overview of which is given in this book.
