Natürlich wird auch die Europäische Honigbiene (Apis mellifera), portraitiert, doch gibt es auch auf unserem Kontinent zahlreiche Wildbienenarten wie die Hosenbiene, die Sägehornbiene oder die Seidenbiene. Die Mörtelbiene Nordafrikas baut Lehmnester an den Wänden von Gebäuden und in Peru gibt es eine stachellose Honigbiene, die ebenfalls staatenbildend ist. Fast unsichtbar sind die millimeterkleinen Steppenbienen Asiens, viel größer ist die Blattschneiderbiene Hawaiis. Daneben gibt es Bienenarten, die als „Blutbienen“ in Nester fremder Bienen einfallen und diese parasitieren. Die Kuckucksbiene wiederum lässt ihre Eier von anderen Bienen aufziehen.
