About this book

Status of Biodiversity of West Bengal gives a detailed account of the status of biodiversity including details of such species that have become extinct in West Bengal, those critically endangered and some that are exclusively found in the local ecosystem. At least 10 species of mammals which used to be found in West Bengal are either extinct or probably extinct from the State. Similarly, three species of birds, Monal Pheasant, Maountain Quail and Pink-headed Duck are no longer found in the State.

Status of Biodiversity of West Bengal also lists species that are exclusively found in West Bengal such as the Marsh Mongoose or the Darjiling Kukri Snake, and seven plant species including a species of orchid. Lastly, Status of Biodiversity of West Bengal contains a district-wise analysis of the biodiversity.
