Language: Japanese with scientific nomenclature
The ultimate saltwater fish encyclopedia for divers has finally been revised. The scientific names have been significantly revised to comply with the latest classification system. Following on from the best-selling first edition, this book introduces 1,248 types of saltwater fish that can be seen at diving spots all over Japan with approximately 2,600 photos. In addition to adult fish, photos of juvenile fish and species with different sexes are also included as much as possible. And with accurate explanations and distribution information, it is structured so that you can accurately identify the fish you actually see.
These photos were thoroughly observed and taken by underwater photographer Yusuke Yoshino over a long period of time. Supervising editor Hiroshi Seno (curator at the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural History) looked at the photos in detail, sometimes going back to papers and sometimes to specimens, and identified each species one by one to create this encyclopedia. Naturally, while keeping track of the trends of researchers both in Japan and abroad, the book is centered on Yoshino's detailed observations, especially when it comes to the morphology of juvenile fish. This is a compact guidebook to saltwater fish that is unmatched by any other guidebook in terms of the accuracy and comprehensiveness of its photographs and descriptions. This is a must-have book not only for divers, but also for tide pool fish-watching and fishing enthusiasts.
