About this book

Please note that the copy we have on sale has slight damage to the spine of the book - the inside of the book is perfect

This book documents all 316 species of endemic trees from around the island. Jamaica is often referred to as the "land of wood and water" and is an island extremely rich in endemic species. It has over nine hundred endemic species of flowering plants and research has shown that over three hundred of these are trees.

Many of Jamaica's endemic trees are extensively used by local farmers loggers, and charcoal burners. The over-utilization of some trees will eventually lead to depletion and ultimately extinction. Generally, there is a low awareness of the importance of the trees as well as tree identification skills. This in effect results in the destruction of endemics and hence Jamaica's natural heritage. To ensure that its endemics are protected, conserved and managed effectively, this guide offers information and expertise to guide their use.
