About this book

Between 1979 and 2004, 20 volumes of the serial publication Fauna of Saudi Arabia, which, as of volume 17, continued as Fauna of Arabia, were published. In 1990 an index for volumes 1 to 10 was produced, and an index for volumes 11 to 20 was planned to appear immediately after the publication of volume 20. However, in the first index, the combined name of a taxon was only listed under the lowest taxonomic category. In the present index, in response to user feedback, it decided to list both genus and species group taxa consisting of more than one word, under each element of the composite name. For this and other reasons, the publisher decided to publish a new index to all the volumes produced thus far. In total, 358 authors have contributed to the series, and 1351 taxa have been introduced as new to science.

This index consists of three parts
- A systematic index to the scientific names of animals, in alphabetical order (p. 5);
- An index to the taxa introduced as new to science in Fauna of (Saudi) Arabia (p. 503);
- An authors’ index, listing all the contributors to volumes 1 to 20 (p. 521).
