This book covers 1720 species of flowering plants belonging to 911 genera and 158 families distributed from tropical to temperate regions (300–2611 m) and represents unique topographical gradients. The vegetation of Nainital district, in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, is divided into foothills (Bhabhar) and a hilly region which forms a transitional zone for the vegetation of the plains and Himalayan region. The results presented are based on extensive field surveys made from the foothills to the highest peak of the district. The local distribution status of the plants, their flowering and fruiting season, and their general habitat are mentioned. The species that may become threatened in the near future are listed in a rare plant list along with their family. This work should be of interest to conservationists, students of botany, academics, researchers, environmentalists, ecologists and people involved in the field of biodiversity and climate change.
