About this book

Language: English

Nandankanan Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the 19 wildlife sanctuaries of Odisha, India, and includes the State Botanical Garden. A complete and comprehensive account of the plant resources here was not available thus far. This book gives a botanical account of 704 wild and naturalised plant species belonging to 491 genera and 142 families within the geographical boundary of this Nandankanan Wildlife Sanctuary, based on field work undertakenby the authors.

Species occurring in the wild, naturalised in this habitat or commonly cultivated are included. The families have been arranged according to the modified Bentham & Hooker system. For each species, the botanical name with author citation, synonyms in local floras, vernacular names, botanical description, flowering and fruiting time, ecological notes on distribution have been provided, together with colour photos of species. As it has not been possible to include all cultivated and introduced taxa, a list of 352 species of garden ornamentals and introduced taxa has been appended.
