This software programme helps users to identify all the wild plants of continental France, and acts as an illustrated encyclopaedia, covering 5,800 taxa with more than 38,000 photos. Identification keys that rely on several critera and side-by-side comparisons on-screen will aid users in determining a plant's identity. For each species a detailed botanical description is given, mentioning ecological characteristics and showing a distribution map in which French departments the species occurs. Flora ranging from coasts to mountains and from ferns and grasses to trees and shrubs are included.
FloreNum is aimed at both professional botanists, who have access to numerous illustrations, and at amateur botanists with little botanical knowledge, who can search for vernacular names, and use "comparison" and "related taxa" tools.
