About this book

A substantial revision and expansion of the author's Florida Wildflowers in Their Natural Communities (1998). The new book is about 50% longer, 583 versus 384 pages, and now has color photographs of more than 750 species of wildflowers representing 151 families. The new book is divided into five parts: The introductory 13 pages focus on state geography and botanical basics (identification; floral structure; phenology; distributions; names). Part I treats 14 plant communities of “Florida’s hardwood forested uplands,” whereas part II treats 9 plant communities of her wetlands. Part III and part IV have the “species descriptions” for the various plant communities of upland and wetland Florida. The species descriptions include synoptic information for native versus alien status, morphology, phenology, habitat, range, and, if relevant, taxonomy and synonymy.
