Each butterfly's habits, range and important characteristics are described, while colour paintings show each butterfly in detail. There are sections on the four stages of the life-cycle of butterflies and on breeding butterflies. Sound advice on conservation issues is also offered. The book can be used as both a home reference and a pocket companion in the field.
Robert Goodden was on the Joint Committee for the Conservation of British Insects from its foundation, and a member of other conservation and entomological organisations. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society by two of the Society's presidents He has broadcast regularly on the BBC's Wildlife and The Living World series and has written a number of books on butterflies and insects, including The Field Guide to British Butterflies.
