About this book

Language: French

Le Delta de l'Ogooué is an attractive and informative book of 324 pages divided into 12 chapters, summarising all available data on the Ramsar site of Bas-Ogooué in Gabon. In addition to the general data on the site, the book provides a recent review of biodiversity knowledge of the Bas-Ogooué Ramsar site, in particular on the following groups: fish, birds, large fauna, amphibians and reptiles, flora and vegetation. A new mapping of the vegetation has been established with the collaboration of the French Institute for Research for Development (IRD).

Le Delta de l'Ogooué addresses the structure and history beyond the Ogooué in chapter 2. Chapters 3 to 5 are devoted to the flora, the vegetation of Bas Ogooué and vegetation mapping. Chapters 7-11 cover fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Chapter 12, finally, presents all the effective conservation methods used to protect this immense and rich biodiversity.

For Tariq Stévart, Le Delta de l'Ogooué is the first book to provide detailed documentation on the rich human history and biodiversity of the Bas-Ogooué complex. Its wetlands form the third largest delta system in Africa. A real treasure of biodiversity, it is the most intact after the Niger Delta and the Nile.
