From the foreword:
"Twelve years have passed since the first edition of Lycaenidae part II, and during this time the research carried on by several lepidopterists in remote regions of central Asia and China have provided additional information about little knovm or new taxa belonging to this Theclinae subfamily. In the last ten years two of the authors of this second edition, S. Churkin and A. Zhdanko, have focused on genus Neolycaena, concentrating particularly on the biology and the zoogeography of this intriguing butterfly group. As a result many new species and many different systematic arrangements have come to light. The Neolycaena section of this new edition, fully revised by S. Churkin and A. Zhdanko, incorporates all their new findings. Clearly a thorough understanding of the evolutionary systematics and of the relationship between morphological differences and foodplant in Neolycaena species will require a lot of additional work, including DNA analysis that so far has not been utilized for this group. The comprehensive overview presented in this book by Churkin and Zhdanko will be a sound and up to date platform for forthcoming research."
