About this book

Language: Portuguese

The Atlantic Forest, a terrestrial biome along the Atlantic coast of Brazil, is one of the most threatened biomes and one of the most vulnerable areas of the planet, yet it still is home to a wealth of biodiversity that it typical of Brazil. It is home to 83 species of terrestrial mammals of medium and large size distributed among the Didelphimorphia (opossums), Cingulata (armadillos), Pilosa (anteaters and antelope), Primates (macaques, monkeys and marmosets), Rodentia (hedgehogs, pacas and capybaras), Lagomorpha (rabbits and hares), Carnivora (cats, jaguars, wolves, otters and coatis), Perissodactyla (tapirs) and Artiodactyla (pigs and deer). The only way to protect the mammals of the Atlantic Forest and what remains of their habitat is through education and knowledge, creating awareness that nature is a part of us and we can not live without it. Only in this way can we hope to live with beings that preceded us and who today constitute an immense genetic patrimony of humanity, In this book the authors describe particularities of each species, such as general characteristics; geographic distribution; reproductive, trophic and ecological data; as well as illustrations of footprints, that aim to facilitate the identification of the species in the field.
