This volume assesses the present knowledge of the effects of heavy metals and acidic discharges likely to contaminate the freshwater environment as a direct result of mining activity. It concentrates on nickel, copper, zinc and lead, and there is an emphasis on identifying groups of organisms which may be useful as monitors or indicators of pollution.
