About this book

An account of all the orchids known known to occur wild in this most important island of Indonesia. Altogether 130 genera are listed, and a total of 731 species described. A key to the genera is provided, as well as keys to species level within each genus. Because most of the plants described have been seen in the forest, habitat notes are given, which may be useful to persons engaged in their cultivation.

Many people, especially those who do not have English as their mother tongue, would rather identify plants by leafing through a botanical book looking at the illustrations instead of working through dichotomous keys, heavy with botanical terms. An effort has therefore been made to include as many photographs as possible, all of which are located close to the relative text.
