"Since the publication of the Pictorial Pocket Guide to the Common Birds of Sri Lanka (2000), the follow-up Pocket Guide 01: Common, Endemic & Threatened Birds (2006), and the Wide use of the "Sri Lanka Birds" internet database, led to the need for a pictorial guide of the common birds again. The present book fulfills that need. The nomenclature both scientific and vernacular, is according to the Illustrated Guide to the Birds of Sri Lanka (Kotagama & Ratnavira 2010) and upgraded according to the BirdLife International 2012 Taxonomic List."
