Two hundred and twenty four species have been finally included into the Red Data Book of the Polish Carpathians. They were selected after careful reviewing procedure from almost 2200 vascular plant species known to be present in the Polish Carpathians.
Within the present Red Book, 224 species were finally placed, accounting for ca. 10% of all vascular plant species found in a 'wild state' in the Polish Carpathians. This number covers 18 species found to be altogether extinct, four that are extinct in the wild, being though protected ex situ. Another 47 species are critically endangered, 42 are endangered, whereas 77 other species are vulnerable. Twenty three species represent a lower risk category and 13 are data deficient.
