About this book

Language: Dutch

The Rothmaler flora has been a phenomenon for decades, and not just in Germany. Dutch ecologists, botanists, and systematists frequently use his detailed reference works. This unique plant guide fits seamlessly with existing Dutch floras. It contains almost 1900 detailed drawings of vascular plant, arranged according to the latest taxonomical classification system. Thanks to its pocket format, it is well suited for outdoor use.

Rothmaler is a useful addition to the classroom and a great book for anyone interested in plants. Why this book is so useful for students of applied biology? Flora-apps have their uses, but they ultimately teach you less. This flora will encourage you to take a good look at the habitus of plants, building up important knowledge that is indispensable for a properly trained field biologist.

Werner Rothmaler (1908-1962) was a German botanist. In 1950 he published the first edition of his Exkursionsflora, subtitled a Pflanzenbestimmungsbuch für Schulen und Hochschulen. This led to the creation of Rothmaler’s Exkursionsflora von Deutschland. For this Dutch version, Steef Steeneken has carefully compiled a flora of the Dutch vascular plants based on the latest scientific insights. Next to common to rare plants it includes drawings of extinc species.
