Snakes are, perhaps, the animals that most stimulate our imagination due to the fear caused by their venom and their appearance which is so different from that of the animals with which we have more contact. However, this attraction is not accompanied by a thorough knowledge of them and their biology.

The false beliefs that have developed in the popular imagination are much more widespread than the real facts of their different ways of life. The authors think that the first step to understanding is to know, and for that reason, this book offers basic biology and field charactersof the snakes of the Northwest Argentina.

Las serpientes son, quizás, los animales que más atraen nuestra imaginación debido al temor que causa su veneno y su apariencia tan diferente a la de los animales con los que tenemos mayor contacto. Sin embargo, esta atracción no es acompañada por un cabal conocimiento de ellas y su biología.

Son mucho más corrientes las falsas creencias que se desarrollaron en la imaginación popular, que los hechos reales de sus diferentes formas de vida. Consideramos que el primer paso para comenzar a entender es conocer, y por ello hemos decidido realizar este trabajo con la intención de mostrar las características y biología de las serpientes del Noroeste Argentino.
