Big butterfly count 2016
UK charity Butterfly Conservation is holding its seventh annual Big Butterfly Count between 15th July and 7th August. Participants are being invited to count butterflies for 15 minutes, ideally on a sunny day, during this period in which many UK butterflies are in the adult stage of their lifecycle.

Zoological awards recognise scientific stars
The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) annual awards ceremony was held last week at London Zoo. The awards celebrate outstanding contributions to conservation and zoological research.

Ecological corridor for declining parakeets
Conservationists are making plans to establish an ecological corridor connected to Buenaventura Reserve in Southwest Ecuador. This will create vital new habitat for the resident El Oro parakeet, whose numbers are in serious decline due to restricted habitat.
