The present work deals with the Stratiomyoidea fauna of China. It consists of two sections, a general section and a taxonomic section. In the general section, the historic review of classification, taxonomic systems, material and methods, morphology, biology and biogeography of Stratiomyoidea are introduced. In the taxonomic section, 58 genera and 383 species from China are described or redescribed. Among them 38 species are described as new to science. The keys to the subfamilies, genera and species of Stratiomyoidea from China are provided. The types of the new species are deposited in the Entomological Museum of China Agricultural University (CAU) , Beijing and Institute of Zoology, China Academy of Sciences (IZCAS), Beijing.

The superfamily Stratiomyoidea is one of the primitive groups in the lower Brachycera with over 3 100 known species. It is divided into two families, Xylomyidae and Stratiomyidae. The Stratiomyidae is a highly diversified group with 382 genera and over 3 000 known species all over the world, while the Xylomyidae is relatively rare with 5 genera and 138 known species. There are 3 genera and 37 known species of Xylomyidae and 55 genera and 346 known species of Stratiomyidae in China.
