This monograph presents the results of studies on the soil and soil salinity of Dzhanybek Research Station and its surroundings (Volgograd Region, Russia / Western Kazakhstan) on the basis of a dual analysis of ground and remote sensing information. The author describes the methodological approaches he developed to compile digital soil maps "from scratch" on the basis of detailed automated interpretation of satellite images and with due regard for anthropogenic land use. The technique was developed in the territory of Dzhanybek Station and was tested at key sites in Kalmykia. The natural conditions of the Northern Caspian are characterized in detail. An appendix to the monograph gives all GPS reference coordinates, obtained in the course of the research work on Dzhanybek Station. The approaches described in the book can be useful for solving a number of scientific and practical problems, such as the assessment of desertification and climate change, accounting and inventory of virgin and agricultural land, and the organization of the monitoring of soil cover.

В монографии приведены результаты исследования почвенного покрова и засоленности почв Джаныбекского стационара и его окрестностей (Волгоградская область (IРоссия)/ Западный Казахстан) на основе сопряженного анализа наземной и дистанционной информации. Описаны разработанные автором методические подходы к составлению цифровых почвенных карт «с нуля» на основании автоматизированного дешифрирования детальных космических снимков и с учетом антропогенного использования территории. Методика разрабатывалась на территории Джаныбекского стационара и была апробирована на ключевых участках в Калмыкии. Дана подробная характеристика природных условий Северного Прикаспия. В. приложении к монографии приводятся все аналитические материалы с привязкой GPS, полученные в ходе выполнения научно-исследовательской работы на Джаныбекском стационаре. Подходы, описанные в монографии, могут быть полезны при решении ряда научных и практических задач, таких как оценка процессов опустынивания и воздействия изменения климата, учет и инвентаризация целинных и сельскохозяйственных земель, организация мониторинга почвенного покрова.
