When this monograph was published, information on the fauna of monogenea in African fish was still far from complete, with only a few water basins having been systematically surveyed. The author made extensive collections in Uganda and in this publication the results from Uganda are summarised together with the compiled available information on the monogenea of fish from the entire continent. With the data on monogenea of African fish are also compiled data from fish of African origin from the middle east. The monogenea of Israel were extensively surveyed in the years 1958-1964 and it was felt that such information shouId be relevant to the analysis of the fauna of African fish. Representatives of the collected monogenea, holotypes, or other specimens are deposited in Musee Royal de I'Afrique Centrale, Tervuren, Belgium.
