In der vorliegenden Publikation werden auf 556 Seiten mit Hilfe von 350 Abbildungen und ca. 1650 Verbreitungskarten die Gruppen von den Urmotten bis zu den Rüsselzünslern vorgestellt. Seit den Arbeiten des Lavanttaler Schmetterlingsforschers Gabriel Höfner, der zwischen 1903 und 1910 Grundlegendes zur Gruppe der Kleinschmetterlinge vorgelegt hat, ist nichts Vergleichbares zur Verbreitung und Biologie der Schmetterlinge veröffentlicht worden.
