About this book

Language: German

This work offers a current checklist for Carinthia, Austria's southernmost state, for 27 animal groups. This zoological inventory includes 8,470 species from the major groups of vertebrates, molluscs, arachnids and insects. For all listed species, the threat situation is clearly depicted using the IUCN categories. This risk analysis is based on hundreds of thousands of data sets and the concept of functional extinction of individual species in our landscape. More than 70 authors contributed their expertise, enthusiasm and many years of experience to this monographic work. It is a milestone in faunistic research in Carinthia and an important basis for future nature conservation work in the state. It documents the severe population declines and advancing extinction processes in our animal world and is at the same time a hopeful call to preserve the animal diversity of Carinthia.
