About this book

This book is the most complete and beautifully illustrated guide to the amphibians and reptiles inhabiting the territory of Russia ever published. It is also the first comprehensive, up-to-date English-language book about this interesting species assemblage. Some previous books addressed the herpetofauna of northern Eurasia and the "Confederation of the Independent States" but none of them was specifically dedicated to that of the Federation of Russia.

The present work provides detailed descriptions of the systematics, morphology, biology and behaviour of these animals. Keys and numerous photographs of animals in the wild will help readers to know Russian turtles, snakes, lizards, frogs and other amphibians and reptiles better. Lastly, this book contains a unique bibliography listing more than 1060 titles, specifically compiled for the present edition.

The authors of this comprehensive book are well-known Russian herpetologists, both of them scientific collaborators of the Zoological Museum of the M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University. Both have published extensively about the amphibians and reptiles of Russia.
