The third in the series Taxonomic Guides to the Stick Insects of South East Asia. It follows the concept of the previous two volumes by the author: A Taxonomic Guide to Stick Insects of Borneo and A Taxonomic Guide to Stick Insects of Borneo, Volume 2. The book is lavishly illustrated with extremely well reproduced colour photographs of all species found in Singapore and beyond. All species are shown in full together with relevent parts of their anatomy, as well as eggs where possible, all of which are essential for correct identification in the field, laboratory or museum. Its 175 pages with 600 photographs will be referred to time and time again, both for the sheer pleasure of looking at beautiful photographs and then also for serious taxonomic pursuits. This book is the essential guide to the stick insect fauna of Singapore, for all who might need or want to identify a stick insect from Singapore.

But this book includes the nomenclature of more than just the species occurring within Singapore. It clarifies some of the taxonomy of species from the region with which the Singapore fauna is closely related. Within its pages, Dr Seow-Choen lists one new genus named after Singapore, corrects nine erroneous synonyms, lists four new synonyms, names three new name combinations, establishes five new lectotypes to stabilise names, records one species new to Singapore and describes three new species.

Amateur or professional naturalists and entomologists will need to have this book on hand to be up to date with any stick insect they might find or be presented with. In the book are 44 species definitely known to exist or were previously found in Singapore. But the book also clarifies the status of several other erroneously synonymised species from West Malaysia and Sumatra. It is therefore an essential reference for anyone interested in the fauna of Singapore, Malaysia, Sumatra and indeed of the entire South-East Asian region.
