Written to replace Memoir No.54, allowing the authors to consider new observations and new publications in this subject. The memoir diagnoses seven biomes according to explicit criteria of dominant and co-dominant plant life forms. Discussed are ecological implications of the relationship between climate and life form dominance and codominance, and relations between mapping scale, vegetation structure and floristic community.
