About this product

The Brigida bat shelter is an excellent and cost-effective mitigation solution for crevice-dwelling species. It can be secured to any brick wall, providing a narrow crevice suitable for summer residence if sited externally and winter residence if sited in an internal space. The entrance gap, 3cmx31cm in size, is located at the bottom of shelter and ensures that no maintenance is required. Pipistrelles and Daubenton's bats will both utilise the Brigida, roosting during the summer days and hibernating through the winter in appropriate locations. If used as a hibernation shelter, the Brigida should be located in a loft, cellar, bunker, cave, or similarly frost-resistant location, at a height of at least 3m from the ground. If externally located it should be kept out of direct sunlight, away from the prevailing wind and any sources of artificial illumination.

The Brigida is constructed from wood-concrete, a blend of concrete and wood fibres that is robust, thermally insulating, and breathable. Due to the Brigida's low profile it can be painted over with a non-toxic, breathable paint, making it an extremely discreet option for developments. It is affixed to the desired surface via three screws, one in the top and one on each side (fixings included). On an uneven wall it is recommended that the sides are sealed with silicon, insulating tape, or a similar method, to protect the bats inside from the wind - just be sure to leave the entrance hole unobscured!
