Organizations today are under constant pressure to improve their impact on the environment. To do this, they need a systematic approach to help them establish and continuously improve their Environmental Management System (EMS).
The recently revised ISO 14004:2016 helps organizations of all types and sizes to establish and boost their environmental performance and coordinate this with smoother management operations. ISO 14004 looks at all the relevant elements of an EMS to help organizations with their decision making. It also explains factors that should be taken into account during environmental policy formation, as well as the planning stages.
The standard includes practical guidelines on the successful implementation and operation of an environmental management system, performance testing and doing management reviews. Thanks to the its high level of detail, it can provide particular support to those who might have less resources or feel uncertain about where to start. It can be used both in conjunction with ISO 14001:2015 and on its own.
