This book presents the results of an alpha diversity analysis of potent pollinators from the hoverfly family Syrphidae along the agro-climatic zone of Himachal Pradesh to get a clearer picture of their current diversity status. Average values have been calculated for all four diversity indices, and, depending on the calculated average values, it has been found that among the four agro-climatic zones, the Shivalik Hill Zone is the most species-rich site, whereas Mid Hill Zone is the most diverse site. On the other hand, the High Hill Zone is the agro-climatic zone with the most species clumping, and thus the least diverse site.

According to the Berger Parker index values, the dominant species from these agroclimatic zones are Episyrphus (Episyrphus) balteatus (De Geer, 1776) from the Shivalik Hill Zone and Mid Hill Zone, and Eristalis (Eristalis) tenax (Linnaeus, 1758) from the High Hill Zone and Cold & Dry zone, respectively. Calculation of relative abundances has revealed the most abundant species from all of the four agroclimatic zones. Furthermore, it has been found that species evenness is positively correlated, and the species dominance index is negatively correlated with altitudinal ranges. These results, as well as identification of the most abundant and most dominant species zone-wise, will further help in long-term monitoring programs as well as conservation management via species distribution modelling approaches.
