Language: Chinese with English summary and keys, and scientific nomenclature

This volume deals with the families Tellinidae and Semelidae (Mollusca: Bivalvia) of the Chinese seas. There is a total of 117 species, with 95 belonging to Tellinidae and 22 belonging to Semelidae. Among them, five species, Elpidollina mai sp. nov, Nitidotellina sinica sp. nov. Cadella orientalia sp. nov.. Cadella liui sp. nov., and Montrouzieria quadrata sp nov, are new to science. Specimens are mainly based on the collection housed in the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qingdao, China. This volume consists of two parts: The first part is a general account including a historical review and sections on morphology, ecology, geographical distribution, and economical importance of both families. The second part is a systematic description of morphological characters, geographical distribution, and ecology of each species.
