About this book

Language: French

The French departement Bouches-du-Rhône is well known to naturalists because of its exceptionally diverse fauna. At the crossroads of the Camargue, Crau, and limestone Provence and the Mediterranean coast, this territory is made up of 19 natural units, or eco-regions, which are presented in detail at the start of the book. The rest of the work is devoted to a presentation of the species of vertebrate fauna: birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, freshwater and marine fish are all illustrated and presented in large groups, complemented by detailed monographs of the most representative or emblematic species of the territory.

The authors do not limit themselves to vertebrates: they also offer the reader a complete overview of the invertebrate fauna presented by group: molluscs, arachnids, insects (dragonflies, hymenoptera, beetles, etc.), ... these parts are richly illustrated with photographs.

This collective work was led by a team of the LPO Provence-Alpes Côte d´Azur. It would never have been possible without the participation of many scholars who have contributed their knowledge on little studied and often forgotten groups to a publication intended for the general public.
