About this book

Since 1992, through UNESCO's World Heritage Programme, the best of the world's cultural landscapes have been made protected sites. This book offers a tour of those so far listed, such as the Tongariro volcanic landscape in New Zealand, the Portuguese wine region of the Alto Douro and the rice-growing terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras. Representing Britain are Blaenavon and Kew Gardens.

Biography

Peter Fowler is now a consultant, writer and painter, based in London and Languedoc. He was formerly Secretary to the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (England) and Professor of Archaeology at Newcastle University. He has been closely involved with the selection of landscapes appropriate for World Heritage inscription.
