About this book

Eric Alston Christenson (1956-2011) was one of the most active orchid taxonomists of modern times, and one of the foremost experts on the taxonomy of Maxillaria. He published at least 7 genera, 35 subgeneric taxa (subgenera and sections), 461 new species and generic transfers, and 94 infraspecific taxa of orchids (16 sections, 80 species, and 5 infraspecific taxa in Maxillaria alone). A few years before his death, Eric began to work on a monograph of Maxillaria.

This set of two volumes is the text Eric Christenson had completed when he died. The compilers have augmented the text with photographs and scans of drawings, including the line drawings of Michael McIllmurray. This text covers the approximately 650 Maxillaria species described at the time of Eric's death.
