Taxonomic Redefinition of Subtribe Malaxidinae (Orchidales, Malaxidae) aims to offer a complete taxonomic revision of the subtribe Malaxidinae. Accordingly, clear and univocal characteristics of each genus and all its infrageneric taxa; detailed descriptions of the taxa and where possible determination of their degrees of similarity, relationships and infrataxon variability; verification of the component species of each genus and its infrageneric taxa based on a review of all available taxonomic materials and methods (classic/conventional taxonomy, based on biometrics, morphology and anatomy at standard, macro and ultra macro levels as well as phenetic and genetic taxonomies); nomnclatural verification of all Malaxidinae taxa at all systematic levels – checking the name in accordance with ICBN (International Code of Botanical Nomenclature) and setting out a possibly complete list of their synonyms; construction of the keys for determining the genera, their infrageneric taxa and species; compilation of taxonomic data at species and infraspecific levels; location and clarification of the status of type – specimens, lectotypification and neotypification where explicit confirmation of the original type – material is lacking; collection of available information about the taxa studied, e.g. their ecology, biology, distribution and abundance of both living plants and preserved material. – Covers 12, genera, 387 species and 1050 taxa.
